Mr. Acosta incorporated a myriad of strategies to enhance the existing programs, products, and services of Southern District. This was the first attempt by Southern District to use such tools in meeting the diverse needs of the professionals and students represented within the thirteen states of the district. Southern District is comprised of Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. There are too many examples to provide a detailed list, but I will highlight several.

Mr. Acosta worked with the leaders of each state during the Leadership Development Conference by conducting sessionson “Getting Started with Social Media.” In the area of social media, Mr. Acosta is phenomenal. This past year, he served as one of the administrators of the Southern District and NCAAHPERD Facebook pages, and used these mediums to effectively communicate with our members. In an effort to market our 2011 February convention, Mr. Acosta developed specifically targeted video clips to increase attendance. These videos highlighted the upcoming event, topic areas covered, and included messages from members of the association. During the recently completed convention, Mr. Acosta also prepared resources to be used in the marketing of the 2012 convention in Orlando, Florida.

In advance of the February convention, Mr. Acosta also worked diligently to secure vendors, and external contributions and sponsorships for the event. This resulted in more than $2,000 additional revenue being generated. These are but just a few of the many activities that Mr. Acosta has been engaged in over the past year. . . I have been fortunate to work with him in many capacities. I have no reservations about his future potential for success in any endeavor that he chooses. Nathan is truly a consummate professional.

2010 Southern District AAHPERD President

I had the opportunity to work with Nathan during my tenure as President of NCAAHPERD (North Carolina Alliance for Athletics, Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance).  It was during this two year time period that I was able to witness Nathan take our organization to new heights.  Not only, was he an asset to the daily operations of the office but, bought our organization into the 21st century by his unique gifts and talents.

Some of his areas included:

  •  Branding: Developed letterhead, business cards, consolidated logo colors for one consistent look, suggested the slogan “Supporting educators in motion since 1921,” designed image headers, color schemes, and other components for a branded email-marketing and communications.
  • Member advocacy: Represented the membership at the state legislature and in Washington, DC; kept members informed through email messages, website updates, tweets, and high definition videos. Collectively, these communications services gave NCAAHPERD members an unprecedented view of advocacy, allowing them to experience some of the most important work NCAAHPERD does as-it-happens, and gave members new ways to be involved and committed.
  • Media relations: Formed relationships with professionals in the media; engaged the media in news stories about advocacy, the importance of health and PE, and dance.
  • Strategic partner: Represented the organization at meetings and roundtable discussions with several state agencies; served as a liaison with the American Heart Association – one of NCAAHPERD’s largest sources of income; prepared quarterly presentations for Kate B. Reynolds
  • Event Planning: Secured $27,000 in exhibit space, advertising, and sponsorships, coordinated all volunteers, and led a marketing campaign highlighting the reasons to attend the conventions through many dimensions.

While all of the areas are indeed impressive, it must be said that Nathan’s greatest asset is that he is a self starter with such a strong work ethic that his very nature is to do the best job possible and to leave no task undone until the work is complete.  He will be an asset to any company.  If I may offer any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
