About Nathan
Professionally I am a modern communications professional, well versed in new media and traditional public relations. With prior experience in the nonprofit, healthcare, education, and financial services sectors, I have had the opportunity to drive measurable results in a variety of challenging environments. I firmly believe strategic leadership and the drive to never stop learning are essential to the best success.
On weekends, find me at the farmer’s market, at the movies, covered in dust, paint, or grease (these days I am quickly becoming a do-it-yourself junkie), or on the road to somewhere I have never been!
3 Fun Facts About Nathan
F.A.Q.
1. Who are you & what are you all about?
Glad you asked! I’m a young communications professional living in the triangle area of North Carolina. I’m fascinated by a lot of things, but professionally, public relations, marketing, graphic & web design are my main interests.
2. Are you creative?
Many have often said I’m creative — in the good way. It is in my genes. And I love to meet new and interesting folks. Like other creative types, communications professionals have to develop new ways to keep consumers, other organizations, voters, and basically any target audience engaged. Guerrilla and viral marketing campaigns don’t grow themselves! A firm does not have to be launching the newest i-widget to create something creative and fun. Ask me how I helped an organization strengthen its relationship with contacts at the North Carolina General Assembly and lead to two successes – the first in its 80 year history.
3. What’s your view on social media and its role in public relations?
Everyone has an opinion on social media these days. I find its ability to make connections and draw us closer together one of the 21st century’s incredible first accomplishments. Whether you’re a granny who uses Facebook to stay in touch with grand kids thousands of miles away, a woman running for president, or a young professional searching for a job, social media is giving us an unprecedented level of accessibility, accountability, and connectedness. As for its role in PR — well, it is hard for me to imagine one without the other. Social media has a huge role in politics, events, natural disasters, and even wars.
A very smart person once said “the ROI of social media is your organization is still around in five years.” While I think that might be a pretty liberal accusation, I think it will definitely be more challenging for organizations to succeed without any social media.

4. I see you are active on a lot of social media networks, but why not ______?
Just because it is not listed does not mean I have not explored it or am experienced using it. I use what works for me personally on a day-to-day basis. It is critical to stay informed of new trends — I believe that is true for social media and other things happening in the industry.
5. What brought you to Raleigh? Where are you from?
My first job! I began my career at a nonprofit and working at one is something I always wanted to do. I feel like I have lived all over North Carolina. My hometown is split between Mount Airy and Winston-Salem, I attended Elon University (centrally located between Greensboro and the triangle), interned in Charlotte, and have family in friends in the mountains and the coast.
6. Where are you going?
I love to explore the local area (about to get my mountain bike reconditioned and cannot wait to hit the greenways!). The triangle has so much to offer someone like me. I also love to see the world in shades other than Carolina blue: I studied abroad in London, and have had amazing times in Washington, DC, New York City, Seattle, and San Francisco. Ask me about my recent travels!
7. Where do you see yourself in the future?
That is hard to say, but I am an optimist and believe the best is yet to come. I love the communications industry and the rapid pace at which everything changes. For now I am focus most of my energy on today and tomorrow – don’t you?
8. What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?
This is the internet, everyone knows everything about everyone at all times, right?!
9. What are you most afraid of?
That’s a toss between a dead cell phone and spiders.
10. Can you send me your resume?
Sure, but you will find it on the next page in the portfolio section as a PDF and web-based text version. Or just skip to the portfolio – this is all a lot of text isn’t it?
